Quality improvement for the gastroenterology fellow

Physicians are challenged every day to maximize health outcomes and minimize risk in a resource-limited environment. Yet, given the recent emphasis on increasing health care costs, we are compelled to provide even more efficient care—to deliver better quality care at lower costs. To do so successfully, there is a growing need for quality improvement in all of health care, including our field of gastroenterology. In this month's Fellows' Corner, Dr. Jeffrey J. Easier of the University of Pittsburgh provides an overview of quality improvement including its clinical importance, project implementation, and tangible ideas for the gastroenterology fellow.
