Pediatric pancreatic EUS-guided trucut biopsy for evaluation of autoimmune pancreatitis

EUS is routinely used as a diagnostic tool for pancreatic diseases, a role that is further expanded by the ability to obtain biopsy specimens using FNA and trucut biopsy (TCB). As compared with FNA, TCB obtains a larger specimen and preserves the tissue architecture, thereby increasing the diagnostic sensitivity for select pancreatic pathologies such as autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP). No reports describing the use of pancreatic EUS TCB in pediatric patients have been found. The aim of our report was to determine the diagnostic utility and safety of pancreatic EUS TCB in pediatric patients for evaluating possible AIP.
