EUS-guided biliary drainage: Is it ready for prime time? Yes!

Improvements in echoendoscope design, imaging quality, and accessories have collectively led the evolution of EUS from a diagnostic to a therapeutic modality.1 As a result, EUS is now a well-established technique for tissue sampling and fine-needle injection and drainage of fluid collections and abscesses adjacent to the GI tract. Widespread adoption of minimally invasive surgery and radio-logic procedures has naturally led to the increased use of EUS in treatment and/or palliation of GI and pancreatico-biliary diseases.
