摘要

In 1926 in Germany tungsten carbide by addition of 6 percent cobalt as binder was commercialised. These carbides exhibited superior performance machining of cast irons, non-ferrous, and non metallic materials. Further developments in production techniques allowed it to be used for machining of steel. The term tungsten carbide describes a comprehensive family of hard carbide composition used for metal cutting tools. In general, these materials are composed of the carbides of tungsten, titanium, tantalum or some combination of these, sintered or cemented in a matrix binder, usually cobalt.
