The accelerating shift to electric vehicles(EVs)is continuing to create new and sometimes unexpected,challenges for suppliers of elastomer materials to the automotive industry.Within the EU,sales of full-electric and plug-in hybrid cars are expected to show growth rates of around 35% this year-driven by legislation requiring vehicle makers to cut average fleet CO2 emissions by 37.5%-from a 2021 baseline-to 60 grams/km by 2030.Demand could gather further momentum as the newly elected European Commission has signalled intentions to introduce even tougher emissions targets towards achieving a climate-neutral EU economy by 2050.
