Academia-Industry Partnerships: Are we ready for new models of partnership? The point of view of the EORTC, an academic clinical cancer research organisation

Currently, there is an urgent need for the adaptation of industry-academia interactions to optimise drug development as the pharmaceutical industry is looking for new models of improving early-stage research in a more cost-saving way and reducing the current high attrition rate.1 The role of academia is typically setting the scientific background (like revealing the genetic and biochemical pathways of diseases including the identification of potential targets) on which the further drug devolvement by the industry is based on.
