Emergency physicians under pressure - Are we sustainable?

Emergency physicians and all those working in emergency care systems both inside hospitals and in prehospital care continue to work under pressure [1-4]. I have previously discussed the need for quality emergency medicine provision and the need to increase levels of medical staffing [5]. In terms of quality, the recently introduced European Diploma of Emergency Medicine will play a major role in ensuring that European emergency physicians meet high standards of clinical skill [6].
