EPA Rule Affects Back-Up Generators, Including Those Operated by ILMA Members

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently promulgated amendments to its rules governing stationary reciprocating internal combustion engines (RICE), including those found at many commercial and industrial facilities used as a backup power supply and for participation in electric demand response programs. EPA's amendments were made to its National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) to reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide, particulate matter and other hazardous substances.
