The State of the Industry

When I was at Davidson College we had a course referred to as Humanities, or, more affectionately, "Humes." The proper name for the course was Western Tradition of Man, Prehistory to Present. It was a two-year commitment; you might say we covered a little ground. We used to joke that the final exam would be a single essay: Describe the universe in 25 words or less and give three examples. (There is a rather elegant answer but I won't digress further here.*) My Board Brief topic for this month elicited somewhat the same feeling when assigned: The State of the Industry (in about 750 words).
