Over the past year, the lubricants industry has focused on developing the new passenger car specification ILSAC GF-5 and, more recently, the corresponding API SN specification. In this update, we will move away from passenger car lubricants and update you on the world of heavy-duty diesel (HDD) lubricants. To begin, let's start by stating that there are no new specifications on the immediate horizon. Industry experts - from engine builders to additive producers and oil marketers - have determined that API CJ-4 engine oils provide outstanding engine protection, and they can still manage protection needs as new emissions regulations are phased in.
