Drilling Automation - the KCA Deutag FX Concept

New automation technologies on drilling rigs may completely change the way land rigs will be operated. Drilling has always been just in the hands of people, but now this is about to change with the help of computer-controlled drilling. On drilling rigs currently mainly rig equipment automation is seen, which promotes a hands-off approach to the operation of heavy machinery, eliminating the number of people in the red zone and improving safety, all with the objective of meeting zero harm core value targets. There is, however an application for automation which is becoming more and more important with regard to performance and efficiency improvement through a more science based drilling process: SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).
