Influence of shade on growth and flowering of Anthurium andraeanum.

A field trail was conducted during 2002-03 in Karnataka, India, to study the influence of different shade levels on the growth and flowering of anthurium cv. Hondura. Five different levels of shade, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80%, were used for the study. The results revealed that all the vegetative and reproductive characters significantly differed among various shade levels. The maximum plant height (33.38 cm), number of leaves (7.69), leaf length (17.76 cm), leaf width (10.29 cm), canopy height (24.16 cm), canopy width (34.28 cm), number of suckers (2.31) were recorded with 80% shade level. The flower characters such as stalk length (34.39 cm), spathe length (7.74 cm), spathe width (6.69 cm), spadix length (5.56 cm), spadix girth (6.0 mm) and number of flowers (4.25) were recorded maximum also in 80% shade level..
