U.S. Production Capability and Imports

U.S. Production - Mills produced 7.67 million tons of crude steel in February 2019, up 5.5% from the same month last year (Fig. 1). During the same period, the monthly capacity utilization rate rose from 75.9% to 82.4%. February production was below the rolling 36-month average of 7.8 million tons. For comparison, February's global crude steel production increased 4.1% to about 151.3 million tons over the same month last year.
