Recent increases in the use of temporary workers can increase potential liabilities and create other pitfalls for employers, say human resource experts. While the rise in temporary workers signals a rebound in the economy, they note that employers remain obligated to comply with state and federal employment laws, including discrimination statutes, even though the worker's paycheck is cut by the staffing agency. There also are situations in which an employer could be required to provide benefits.
