Chesapeake Energy is buying WildHorse Resource Development in a deal worth almost $4 billion that will accelerate the embattled company’s plans to add more oil to its asset base.The cash and shares transaction will add WildHorse’s roughly 420,000 net acres-most of which are undeveloped-in the South Texas Eagle Ford Shale and Austin Chalk formations to Chesapeake’s position for a total of 655,000 net acres in the play.
