Oil CEOs Say Industry Must Work on Messaging

The oil and gas industry needs to work together to deliver a clear and consistent message that it understands society's expectations and shares its concerns while also making the case that it will continue to play a vital role in the global economy,industry leaders told the IP Week conference.Speaking on the first day of the annual gathering in London,Saudi Aramco CEO Amin Nasser said that despite the industry's success in supplying affordable energy to a growing population,important stakeholders are increasingly convinced that the world will soon be running on anything but oil.”Last year alone,oil and liquids demand hit 100 million barrels per day for the first time in history.And once again this inspirational industry rose to meet that demand-affordably and reliably,”he said.”Despite this historic success,there is a worrying and growing belief among policymakers and regulators,investment houses,NGOs,and many others that we are an industry with little or no future.”Nasser said these stakeholders are”tuning out”and not hearing the industry when it points out that ground-based passenger vehicles represent only 20% of the world's oil demand,with the remaining 80% coming from sectors such as aviation,shipping,trucking,petrochemicals and lubricants”for which there is no alternative yet and where demand for oil is expected to increase substantially.”
