States Plan New Chemicals Clearinghouse

In a reaction against federal preemption of state efforts to regulate harmful chemicals,a consortium of states from the Pacific Northwest and New England are considering the creation of an interstate registry to track key risk,product use and other data on industrial chemicals.The proposed registry-called the"Interstate Chemicals Clearinghouse"-is being developed by the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production at the University of Massachusetts and is still one to two years away from being operational.
