US, China conclude trade talks without resolution

The US and China have finished another round of trade talks but are offering no clear signs they are close to ending a dispute now enforcing tariffs on $100bn/yr of goods. The two days of trade discussions ended 23 August, the same day China followed through with plans to impose tariffs on $16bn/yr of energy, metal and other products imported from the US, including petroleum coke. The move was in retaliation for a similar amount of tariffs from the US and will come on top of an earlier round of tariffs that targeted $34bn/ yr in bilateral imports.
