High-sulphur US Gulf coke prices inch lower

Prices for high-sulphur petroleum coke moved lower on an fob basis for the first time in a month, as weak demand from India, China and Turkey weighed on the US Gulf market. But the benchmark 6.5pc sulphur, 40 HGI coke price has been surprisingly resilient in the face of weakening demand. The assessment slipped by $1/t this week to $84/t, the same level as in the week of 20 June, when prices abruptly halted their steady upward rise on news that China was considering a 25pc tariff on US coke.
