US July aluminium production up, imports down

US primary aluminium production rose by 8pc in July from a year earlier, boosted by Alcoa and Century Aluminum, which are both in the process of bringing curtailed capacity back on line. US production rose to 68,000t from 63,000t a year earlier, according to data from the US Geological Survey.
