Indian buyers are expecting the Supreme Court on 9 October to lift a ban on petroleum coke imports for some industries and impose a sulphur cap instead. If the court lifts the ban next week as expected, there could be a short-term rebound in anode-grade green coke prices in China and South America, as calciners seek to replenish stocks after more than a month of blocked imports. The ruling could also boost low-sulphur fuel grade coke from the US west coast if it brings steelmakers back into the market.
