Pakistan and Abu Dhabi have awarded a services contract for a planned 250,000 b/d refinery near Karachi, in the latest attempt to revive the project. Pak-Arab Refinery (Parco), a 60:40 joint venture between Pakistan and Abu Dhabi’s state-owned investment fund Mubadala Investment, awarded the contract to French engineering company Technip to manage pre-engineering, procurement and construction activities for the refinery. The $5bn project is expected to be completed in 2022, Parco said in March last year. It did not give an updated timeline in the latest announcement.
