Illinois basin coal difcult for Indian kilns

Several industrial coal buyers in India have moved away from using Illinois basin coal, after unsuccessful trials in kilns be- cause of high chlorine content. The Indian market had been a growing demand hub for US Illinois basin coals since the beginning of this year, capitalis- ing on its cost efectiveness relative to competing coal and petroleum coke. Coals from this region had not been used widely in India previously, and several buyers opted for trial cargoes to gauge the performance in boilers at coal-fred utilities and cement plants.
