Posco expects coking coal prices to rise

Posco, South Korea’s biggest steelmaker, expects coking coal prices to rise in the frst quarter amid tight supplies and ship- ping disruptions. Coking coal is likely to sell for $220-$240/t in January- March after rising to an average of $204/t in October-Decem- ber from $189/t in the preceding quarter. A “surging price trend” will ease as shipping delays at east Australian ports are resolved, but seasonal demand will keep supplies tight, sup- porting premium low-volatile hard coking coal prices at around $200/t fob Australia, the company said.
