Japan’s fourth-largest refiner Cosmo Oil is considering expand- ing coking capacity at its 100,000 b/d Sakai refinery. This would increase petroleum coke production at the refinery from its current level of roughly 400,000t/yr. But the company is also planning to begin consuming its coke produc- tion at its own power plant, leaving a defcit in the Japanese coke market.
