Japanese aluminium imports decline in July

Japanese imports of primary aluminium ingots decreased in July despite a gradual recovery in the country's manufacturing output across vehicles, beverage cans and electronics. Japan imported 88,400t of primary aluminium ingots in July, down by 24pc from a year earlier, according to prelimi-nary data released today by the fnance ministry. The imports were valued at ￥15bn ($144mn), down by 36pc. Japan signif-cantly reduced aluminium imports from Australia and New Zealand in July by 46pc and 36pc, respectively, on the year to 24,900t and 11,100t.
