Indian coal imports could slide in October

Indian coal imports in October could extend a recent trend of annual falls, as weak coal-fred power generation and lower industrial output weigh on demand. Arrivals of coking and thermal coal across India totalled just over 6.9mn t from 1-15 October, ship tracking data show. If the same unloading rate continues into the second half of the month, a total of about 14.4mn t could unload in October, Ar- gus calculates - slipping from more than 20.65mn t received in October 2018, according to shipping data. Other data sources placed October 2018 coal imports lower at 17.9mn-19.2mn t.
