Mexico has launched an index to track the country’s progress toward President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s ambitious goal of energy independence before he leaves ofce. The country ranks at a baseline of 0.7 now, but should reach a 1 — meaning Mexico produces all of its primary en- ergy — by the end of 2024, according to a mandatory national development plan the president, widely known as AMLO, presented on 1 May.
