US to become net petroleum exporter this year

The US will become a net exporter of crude and petroleum products by the end of this year, according to the latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) Short-Term Energy Outlook. The country is on track to achieve net exports of 100,000 b/d in the fourth quarter, rising to 500,000 b/d in 2020, continuing a shift from net imports of 2.3mn b/d in 2018, the administration said. The US would still average 600,000 b/d of net imports for the full year 2019.
