Each year, breast cancer is diagnosed in over one million women worldwide, with a survival rate of approximately 400,000 women (Jemal et al. 2006). The American Cancer Society estimates the following for breast cancer in the United States for 2013: 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer, 64,640 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS; non-invasive), and nearly 39,620 deaths.
