Used Oil: Where Does the Value Go?

Since the 1980s, the North American lubricant industry has seen the beneficial re-use of used oil by re-refinmg it into quality Group I and Group II base stocks. Technology upgrades over the last 35 years, including the process of severely hydrotreating used oils, have allowed for re-refiners to successfully produce a base stock that is equal to the performance of virgin derived stocks.
