Environmental Goals Influenced by November Elections

Both industry and environmental groups are changing their environmental policy goals for the next four years to reflect the fact that both major party candidates - John McCain (R) and Barack Obama (D) - share similar policy positions with regard to climate change and other environmental issues. For industry, this will likely translate into a temporary end to de-regulatory advocacy that has been well received by the Bush Administration and an acceptance that federal limits on greenhouse gas emissions, maintenance of strict new source review controls and limits on actions that will negatively affect water quality (such as mountaintop mining) are on the horizon.
