The suitability of transesterified corn oil as a bio fuel over Direct Injection (DI) single cylinder, four stroke computerized variable compression ratio multi fuel engine has been studied in this research. The effect of Compression Ratio (CR) on combustion analysis when fueled with 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% blends with diesel (on volume basis) are investigated and compared with that of Pure Diesel (BO). Experiments were conducted at constant speed with maximum load and compression ratio of 17:1,18:1 and19:1. The results indicate that limited ignition delay, higher combustion pressure and lower heat release rate at higher compression ratio were observed for blend 60% Biodiesel and 40% Diesel (B60) when compared to B0. The volatile emissions dropped with CR 17:1 and slightly increased for higher CR besides the decrement of Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). The overall engine performance for B60 as fuel at compression ratio 19:1 and full load condition was found to be optimum rather than B0 as fuel oil.
