Local wisdom in Indonesia's customary forest management: Case studies in Sasak, Bali Aga and Minangkabau

The interaction between human and environement play an important role in mananging forest in Indonesia. In Indonesia particulalry the influences of indigenous people. This study examines the local wisdom of three tribes in Indonesia in forest management. The research method uses descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection through observation and in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and indigenous people. Data analysis with four processes, namely reduction, categorization, synthesis and conclusions. The results of this study include: 1) the similarities and differences in customary forest management in three tribes in Indonesia, namely the Sasak tribe, the Bali Aga tribe and the Minangkabau tribe, 2) local wisdom in forest management is able to preserve customary forests and create balanced environmental conditions. Therefore, local wisdom in forest management is important to be preserved and taught to the younger generation.
