Feds sketch vision of modernized environmental assessment process

The federal government has released a discussion paper that sets out some of the properties of what it calls a 'modernized' environmental assessment process that will 'regain the public's trust.' Chief among the features of the new process would be an expanded scope of assessments, greater participation by Indigenous peoples, the creation of a single government agency responsible for assessments of federally designated projects, and greater cooperation between the federal government and provincial and territorial jurisdictions.
