The oil and gas industry has come far in its understanding of the unconventional subsurface, but there is still much to learn about shale's tightly kept secrets. If one were to chart out the developmental time lines for conventional and unconventional resources, one would find that the line for one is about a mile in length while the other stretches on and on. This difference in lengths is understandable as the bits and pieces that made the shale revolution possible only recently came together.
