Efficient Procedure for Evaluation of Sound Energy Density in a Rectangular Room

In order to make improvements in the sound environment in a room, predicting the sound energy behaviour in that room is indispensable. One of frequently used approaches for the evaluation of the sound energy density in a rectangular room is based on the well-known Image Source Method (ISM) (Milosevic, 1975;Janecek, 1991; Ohta et al., 1992; Ditmmig, 1991). In a room where the sound is well-absorbed, the steady state requires the inclusion of a relatively small number of image sound soures. On the other hand, for a lower sound absorption room, it takes a relatively long time for the sound energy density to tend to stationary values, and it is necessary to estimate the effects of large number of image sound sources. A limited and unsatisfactory convergence of the computation process is the main shortcoming of this procedure in this second case.
