摘要

In this study, chitosan and collagen based scaffolds loaded with ellagic acid were synthesized with an aim to incorporate antioxidant properties within the supporting matrix. Structural characterization of the scaffolds by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the presence of ellagic acid within the chitosan-collagen matrix. The 'fabricated' scaffolds exhibited sustained release of ellagic acid in phosphate buffered saline for 120 h. The scaffolds were biocompatible and supported the recovery of COS 7 cells from the oxidative stress arising due to UV irradiation. Such antioxidant incorporated scaffolds present a potential approach in managing chronic wounds by eliminating ROS.
