Therapeutics Approach in Microenterprise E-Business System: The SOAPIE Method

Information technology has become essential for many business organizations, regardless of their sizes. The promises of huge IT potentials allow for unlimited design of system applications including "off the shelf" e-business systems for small businesses. Often time, when the systems are design, it does not consider the limitations and requirements of micro-entrepreneurs, which are related to their cognitive skills, motivation and computer self-efficacy. In addition, assumptions are common that micro-entrepreneurs as the users posses the ability and accessibility to utilize the e-business systems. As a result, users with these limitations will be marginalized from taking the maximum benefits of e-business. Therefore, using a case study of batik micro-entrepreneurs, we develop a therapeutics-based approach for designing and deploying a business tool for microenterprises. With this technique, microenterprises will have a better utilization to e-business solutions, which is essential for enhancing and sustaining their success.
