John Beebe's book is worth reading, rereading, and then studying. Of course, it is also worth simply perusing at one's leisure, gleaning bits of rich insight from his 50 years of in-depth study of Jung's theory of typology. It is not necessary to read the book straight through. Each chapter brings some new food to the table for us to marvel at and enjoy, providing us with the flavors that enhance our appreciation Jung's original work in this area. I found it easy to find places to prop my feet up in the book and to let the fuller value of Beebe's synthesis and extension of Jung's work unfold over time. While Energies and Patterns in Psychological Types is complex, it is also quite accessible to an educated lay audience. So far I have purchased copies for myself, my wife, my 29-year-old son, and my 21-year-old daughter, a senior in college studying chemical engineering, who reports reading the book until 1:30 am one recent night.
