IMPROVEMENT OVER TRADITIONAL METHODS OF ESTIMATION IN STRATIFIED RANDOM SAMPLING

Auxiliary information is frequently used to improve the accuracy of the estimators when estimating the unknown population parameters. The aim of this article is to make improvement over traditional methods (i.e. usual unbiased (y) over bar, ratio and product estimator) for estimating population mean using various parameters associated with auxiliary variable under stratified random sampling. The expressions for the bias and mean squared error of the proposed estimator are obtained under first order of approximation. It has been found theoretically as well as numerically that the proposed estimator is better than the existing estimators.
