A microstrip fed (MSF) slot antenna with modified geometrical section in the feed system with band stop filter (BSF) characteristics is proposed in this report. The antenna feed rushes into the triangular slot (TS) section and takes the shape of the plus symbol. The geometry is simulated in CST microwave suite. The notch band characteristics of realised MSF-TS antenna for ultra wide band (UWB) applications were obtained by implementing pie type filter on enhanced length of MSF line. The experimental and numerical results show that the proposed MSFTSA and MSFTSA with BSF is highly immune to notch band (VSWR ≈ 100) and compact size of dimensions 26×26 mm, 26×52 mm has an impedance band width range 3.1 to 11 GHz, for VSWR <2 except the notch band frequency 4.18 to 6.09 GHz (HYPERLAN/2, WLAN, C-Band applications). The proposed antenna has shown considerable gain characteristics for frequencies above 3 GHz. The technique of attaining notch characteristics on UWB antenna is also demonstrated with an appropriate notch filter design. Multiple notch bands are evident from the simulation results and the fabricated prototype of antenna characteristics are analyzed with Network analyzer and presented in this work for validation.
