Synthetic Control of Strip Shape Defects for Universal Crown Control Mill Tandem Mill

The Universal Crown Control Mill (UCM) was applied to a PL-TCM (Pickling Line-Tandem Cold Mill). High-order buckles, single edge wave on Drive Side (DS), lace wave and other strip shape defects occurred during rolling processes. These defects not only affect the quality of products, but also the productivity. There are many factors including the materials and technology factors affecting the strip shape, and these factors are complex. In order to eliminate shape defects, a lot of plant tests have been carried out. Based on the analysis of the production and measured strip shape data considering the synthetic control of hot coil materials, processing parameters, equipment, electrical control and management system, and the adjustment and optimization of the rolling process, the strip shape defect was successfully solved in this study. The accuracy of shape control was also ensured to meet the users' demands. This work can provide a control reference for UCM cold rolling tandem mill.
