Background: The aim of this study was to assess the biomechanical characteristics of carotid atherosclerotic plaques using intima-media thickness (IMT) automatic tracking combined with acoustic densitometry (AD) imaging, and to elucidate the relationship between biomechanical characteristics and inflammatory activity of corresponding plaques evaluated by F-18-Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-18-FDG PET/CT).
