Today components made of a wide range of materials are used in the field of automotive engineering. Aluminium is a material which will be more and more applied in the future, particularly if weight has to be reduced and complex structures are required. Car designers tend to use larger and more complex structures which are suitable for fulfilling several functions. As it is intended to increasingly use these complex parts also for safety-related applications, they have to meet high requirements with regard to the load-bear-ing capacity and consequently have to undergo a sophisticated heat treatment.
