TRENDS IN VARIABLE VALVE TRAINS FOR GASOLINE ENGINES

Variable valve train systems have been widely discussed in literature and are nowadays considered to be state of the art. During the last two decades the trends in terms of the most adequate valve train variability strategy continuously changed, mainly driven by the economical, ecological and legislative requirements of the respective eras, but also by technical progress, e.g. with regards to controls and complex control algorithms.
