TOMBSTONES OF THE PRINCELY FAMILY OF GOLITSYN IN THE NOVODEVICHY CONVENT (MOSCOW), 16th - 17th CENTURIES

The article discusses the three tombstones of the late 16th - 17th centuries belonging to the princes Golitsyn, one of the most famous and ramified clans of the Russian aristocracy. The reason for the study was given by extensive archaeological work related to the restoration of the Novodevichy Convent. One of the gravestones (Fedor Andreyevich Golitsyn, + 1591) is known only by description; the second one (Andrei Andreyevich Golitsyn, + 1626) is recently found and is published for the first time. Both belong to infants, unknown according to other documents. The third tombstone - Feodosia Andreevna Telyatevskaya (monastic name Eufrosinia, in the schema Fevronia), wife of Ivan Andreevich Golitsyn - was known, but was not published with detailed analysis. The study shows the unusualness of its design, including the signature of a master named Kuzma. Signatures of tombstone carvers are still not known in the 16th 17th centuries Moscow. The date of death of Feodosia has been made more accurate: 1652 instead of 1655. The article established that this tombstone was moved to Cathedral Church of the Novodevichy Convent. The conclusion is that there are no strong ties between the Golitsyns and the Novodevichy Convent in the 16th - 17th centuries.
