ITC sides with LG, Samsung on 'alternative' remedy in 201 washers report

The U.S. International Trade Commission, in a final report on its Section 201 investigation to President Trump last week week, backed LG and Samsung's "alternative" remedy proposal for large residential washer imports instead of siding with trade restrictions pitched by U.S. petitioners Whirlpool and GE. The probe began after a global safeguard petition was filed in May by Whirlpool. The U.S. company claims that South Korean-based Samsung and LG have repeatedly relocated their washer production facilities to avoid antidumping duties levied by the Commerce Department.
