The European Union is threatening to bring a case against the U.S. at the World Trade Organization challenging the legality of a statute that allows U.S. citizens whose property was seized by the Cuban government to sue foreign companies using that property in Cuba. EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini made the threat in an April 10 letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Copies of the letter were also sent to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and White House National Security Adviser John Bolton.
