Insider Interview: Appellate Body fix unlikely before 2020 election, veteran trade lawyer says

The European Union is unlikely to shift its position on the World Trade Organization's Appellate Body before the next U.S. presidential election, veteran trade lawyer Terence Stewart told Inside U.S. Trade this week, saying the body will accordingly be paralyzed in mid-December when two of its remaining members retire. "My belief is that Europe will not change its position because they believe the position will shift if there's a new administration," he said in an interview. Stewart is the former managing partner of the law firm Stewart & Stewart. "So they'll figure out a way to … continue what they're doing until the next election.
